Evaluation

Evaluation of competitive performances

Equal emphasis will be put on:

  1. Technical difficulty (25%). A technically perfect performance will show: versatility, long spin and aerial combinations. Dynamic and quick tempo changes, including fast transitions, fast spinning and slower and still moments. Agility on both spinning and static poles. Challenging, difficult moves. Strength moves. Flexibility moves. Original moves are highly appreciated.
  2. Execution (25%). A perfect execution will include: flawless technique and finishing of moves, airy spins and climbs, smooth transitions. Good posture. Flexibility. Grace. Good flow. Seamless combination of dancing and acrobatics.
  3. Performance and choreography (25%). Qualities of a perfect performance: captivating, dramatic, intensive, entertaining. Versatile choreography: spins, floor work, aerial moves. Expresses the music. Original dance & pole moves. Good contact with audience. Stylish, elegant, or funny with a spark. Important evaluation criteria is intensity and dynamics (alternating serene and intensive parts in the music and in the dancing). Good costume that fits the performance. Excessive sexuality will results in loss of points in this evaluation category.
  4. Originality (25%). The jury is looking for: originality in technical elements and the putting together of combinations. A distinct personal dance style and body language. An original approach to the performance piece as a whole. Fresh ideas regarding theme, music, costume and overall mood of the dance. Surprising the audience is highly valued, albeit not for the sake of gimmickry, but in order to explore and push forward the limits of what pole dance is and can be.
